TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE	ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS	PREVENTION	FIRST AID/ FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE	Not combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.	NO contact with water and metals.	In case of fire in the surroundings: NO water.
EXPLOSION	Risk of fire and explosion on contact withwater and metals.

EXPOSURE		AVOID ALL CONTACT!	IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
•INHALATION	Headache. Cough. Laboured breathing. Sore throat. (See Ingestion).	Closed system and ventilation.	Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN	Redness. Pain.	Protective gloves. Protective clothing.	Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer for medical attention.
•EYES	Redness. Pain.	Safety spectacles, face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.	First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION	Abdominal pain. Diarrhoea. Nausea. Vomiting. Shock or collapse.	Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating.	Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting. Refer for medical attention.

Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable plastic containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in dry sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. (Extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus). Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment.

Separated from food and feedstuffs . Cool. Dry. Ventilation along the floor.

Unbreakable packaging; put breakable packaging into closed unbreakable container. Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS , OILY , FUMING LIQUID , WITH PUNGENT ODOUR.

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating producing toxic fumes of hydrogen chloride (see ICSC # 0163) and arsenic oxides. Reacts violently with moist air or water to produce hydrogen chloride (see ICSC0163). Attacks many metals forming flammable/explosive gas (hydrogen - see ICSC 0001).

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV (as As): ppm; 0.01 mg/m³ A1 (ACGIH 1999).

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached very quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is severely irritating to the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. The substance may cause effects on the gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular system, central nervous system , resulting in severe gastroenteritis, loss of fluid, and electrolytes, cardiac disorders, shock, convulsions. Exposure above OEL may result in death. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged contact with skin may cause dermatitis. The substance may have effects on the mucous membranes, skin, peripheral nervous system, liver and bone marrow , resulting in pigmentation disorders, hyperkeratosis, perforation of nasal septum, neuropathy, liver impairment and anaemia. This substance is carcinogenic to humans. Animal tests show that this substance possibly causes malformations in human babies.
